*INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD, 2025
“The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis”

Today, as the world marks the International Day of the Girl Child, the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development proudly joins the global community to celebrate the strength, resilience, and limitless potential of every girl.

This year’s theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis” is a powerful reminder of the vital role girls play in shaping a better world. Even in the face of adversity, they continue to lead with courage, compassion, and creativity.

Here in Plateau State, we recognize and celebrate our girls as more than beneficiaries of government programmes. They are visionaries, innovators, and leaders in their own right breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and transforming their communities for the better.

As Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, I reaffirm our unwavering commitment to empowering every girl across Plateau State. We will continue to:

* Ensure access to quality education and life skills training;

* Promote menstrual and reproductive health and hygiene;

* Protect girls from all forms of violence, abuse, and exploitation; and

* Amplify their voices, dreams, and leadership potential.

For this year’s commemoration, the Ministry has outlined a series of impactful activities, including:

* A symposium and capacity-building session on this year’s theme;

* Sensitisation and awareness campaigns in selected communities on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and child trafficking; and

* Distribution of sanitary pads, dignity kits, and ICT enhancement support for schoolgirls.

As a government, we remain steadfast in our resolve to nurture, protect, and uplift the girl child through deliberate policies and programmes that open doors of opportunity and hope.

Let us all invest in our girls, listen to their voices, and support their dreams for when girls rise, the future shines brighter for us all.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child!
